Instruments: Bass, Guitar, Songwriting and Music Theory
Professionally performing and recording musician from 1976 to the present, Tom has opened for several national acts such as Foghat, Johnny Winter, Tommy James, The Joe Perry Project, Robin Trower, The Stray Cats, The Monkees, Third Eye Blind, Kix among others. Tom played bass with the UNH Jazz Band from 1976 – 1981, performing with jazz greats such as Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Taylor, and Joe Williams.
In 1985, Tom was nominated for a GRAMMY AWARD for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for a track entitled "Back to Earth," by his band, "Northern Star". Other nominees for the award included Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Beck, Jon Butcher and Yngwie Malmsteen but he lost the award to rock legend, Jeff Beck. Tom currently performs with a Boston based classic rock band called "Powerhouse"!
Tom has been teaching full time since 1990 and has run the Fabulous School of Music since 2002. He teaches bass and guitar, but his specialty is teaching the many styles and techniques of modern bass playing (slap, tap, funk, rock, jazz, soloing and grooving). He enjoys teaching as much as he enjoys being on stage entertaining an audience. His favorite quote and the one he bases (pun intended) his whole teaching philosophy around is "A good music teacher is one that can transfer their motivation, passion and enthusiasm for their instrument, to their student in a fun yet educational manner."
